Celebration of the 78th National Independence Day
To commemorate the 78th National Independence Day of Sri Lanka, the Warakapola Divisional Secretariat organized a regional Independence Day celebration on 04 February 2026 at the Parakum Open-Air Theatre, which was held in a grand and dignified manner.
The event was presided over by Warakapola Divisional Secretary Mr. Rangana Sajeeva and was attended by senior officers, office and field officers, Community Empowerment Officers, and Development Officers. Representatives from several government institutions, including the Veterinary Office, Agrarian Services Office, Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Office, Provincial Department of Agriculture, and the Warakapola Police, also participated in the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rangana Sajeeva stated that although the country had gradually begun to recover and stabilize after the economic crisis experienced over the past few years, the recently occurred “Ditwa” cyclone had created new challenges and obstacles to the nation’s development journey. He emphasized that the responsibility of rebuilding the country rests heavily upon public servants and that their commitment and dedication are essential to achieving national development goals.
He further highlighted that Community Empowerment Officers, who work closely with people at the grassroots level, and other field officers who serve as the link between government institutions and the public, play a crucial role in the nation-building process. He stressed that overcoming the challenges faced by the country and realizing the true meaning of Independence Day require collective effort, unity, and strong cooperation among all public officers.
Therefore, he called upon all office staff and officers serving in the field to carry out their duties with renewed energy, commitment, and dedication from this day forward, in support of the country’s future development aspirations.
In parallel with the Independence Day celebrations, a special community clean-up campaign (Shramadana Programme) was conducted to clean the office premises and the Mahena Settlement Road, demonstrating a commitment to civic responsibility and environmental stewardship
