Issuance of the First National Electronic Birth Certificate in the Kegalle District
The first National Electronic Birth Certificate in the Kegalle District was issued on 26 March 2025 at the Warakapola Divisional Secretariat, bearing the signature of Mr. Rangana Sajeeva, Divisional Secretary of Warakapola.
At present, this National Birth Certificate is being issued to children born from 2021 onwards. The initiative is implemented in accordance with the Electronic Transactions Act, No. 19 of 2006.
This National Birth Certificate contains several distinctive features that make it more advanced than the conventional birth certificate currently in use. Among these features is the inclusion of a National Identity Card (NIC) Number, which is assigned at the time of registration. In the future, this enhanced National Birth Certificate is expected to make various administrative and public services more convenient and accessible for citizens.
