Thai Pongal Day Celebration

The Thai Pongal Day Celebration, one of the most significant cultural festivals of the Hindu community symbolizing prosperity, gratitude, and thanksgiving, was held in a grand and dignified manner at the Parakum Open-Air Theatre of the Warakapola Divisional Secretariat.

The event was organized by the Cultural Affairs Unit under the guidance and leadership of Warakapola Divisional Secretary Mr. Rangana Sajeeva. The religious rituals and ceremonies were conducted by the Kurukkal of the Sri Bhadrakali Hanuman Temple, and the event was attended by the entire staff of the Divisional Secretariat.

The open-air theatre was beautifully decorated with traditional Kolam designs and festive ornaments, creating a vibrant cultural atmosphere. Following the Hindu religious observances, the traditional “Pongal Rice”, prepared from newly harvested rice, was ceremonially cooked and offered in accordance with long-standing customs and traditions.

More than just a cultural celebration, the event served as a valuable opportunity to strengthen mutual understanding, brotherhood, cultural appreciation, and harmonious coexistence among public servants, fostering unity and respect for diversity within the workplace.
